Quarterly bare-minimum, for sure. I want to get into a much more regular practice of this kind of housekeeping at the end of every design cycle to prevent the entropy from really growing.

I do this mostly after each big feature set. Saving to history and then merging branch. With this approach I have a clean history and are able to retrieve everything I did from it.
