YES. Exactly. Used to have foot ailments that went away when I switched to wide toe box shoes. There's a prolific walker (Craig Mod) that also said that when people's feet hurt when walking, he always first recommends wide toe boxes first before doing anything else.

Switched to “barefoot” shoes (wide toe area, very flat with no arch support, not the individual toes ones) a decade ago and it changed my life. Used to have lower back issues that completely went away.
