homepage update! finished drawing the new sprite walk cycle animations (also cleaned up the sprite design a bit. changes are tiny but i think it looks much better.) i also added a closet and an alternate outfit (⌒_⌒;) on the 2d version of the page, i tightened up the html. since i think i feel pretty close to nailing down the general layout for the 2d pages, i replaced all the generic placeholder divs i was using with semantic html tags full update post on the homepage blog ^-^ https://ellesho.me/page/

I have a question tho, why you decided to use compiled aac tracks instead of og music-for-web friendly midi? Reaching for that compressed quality effect, or just like the sound of a certain synth?

there's no native midi support in browsers and i didn't want to add more js to convert it on the fly. i also like the degraded audio with artifacts bc it sounds like it's coming out of tinny handheld console speakers (◕‿◕)

Yeah, if we're talking about avoiding system FM synth / midi modules, which most browsers are using by default usually, you need to use JS. And yeah, I get it you wanted that warm compression with artifacts (which reminds me of early flash movies too). But using midi would be a hardcore true to late 90 early 2000 approach :3 I wanted to kill a lot of webmasters personally back in the day XD

(⌒_⌒;) i like to honor those early websites without being controlled by it, some things were good back then, some things were bad. that's also why the audio isn't autoplay bc we all know that can be annoying. the 2d mode of the site is probably closer to those days than the 3d part

It's cool, things are how they should be. Even more, it's simply hard to replicate the actual native experience now, because that means you have to markup everything in heavyweight tables and stuff, since, there was no proper semantic models, such as block(div) markup back then 😅 Autoplay... Ah yes, sweet memories... Bleeding from my ears in front of PC at 2 AM simply because the webmaster decided to autoplay not the best version of MRK opening as the background MIDI tune X'D

I'd rather shot myself in the knee honestly, or will do something more hardcore even. I was actually living and WORKING during the era when tables were the main mean of template creation. It was really hard to convince team to use blocks sometimes. Ngl, at some point I mastered tables to the point of remembering all the collspans and rowspans in every table of the template.

Hahaha, that slice tool for cheaters in PS :3 Yeah, I remember that, was kinda useful sometimes. But my reality back then was preparing and optimizing every single element (sometimes pixel by pixel), and my god that was a challenge if you had something with transparent background XD People nowadays must appreciate the fact they have PNG-24 supported by everything. My reality was a hell, where only one browser (Opera at that moment) fully supported PNGs..
