After mentioning hurricane season, people started asking me a lot about it. I'm not a climatologist, but I’ll share what I know. While I was living in the Dominicana, every year, from mid September to mid or late October, there were always news reports about another hurricane heading our way. But, as far as I understood, the currents and winds around the island almost always turned hurricanes away at the very last moment, so they ended up passing by. Puerto Rico on the other hand, which is just 60 km away, wasn’t so lucky most of the time Still, that’s not always the case. In 18, I went through two hurricanes back-to-back. For the first one, we decided to wait it out in the mountains - mistake. Bavaro wasn’t even in the hurricane zone, but the place we went to got hit though not too hard. We still had a pretty fun couple of days staying in cabañas (that’s a whole other story) with pouring rain and winds strong enough to knock you over As for the second hurricane—I'll tell you about that tomorrow
