These people were slowly starting to pull themselves together. The sea air seemed to be doing them good… or so I thought. But I was so wrong! 😅 Turns out, they had been drinking and gambling at the casino all night, completely forgetting about the whole excursion. Everyone was horribly hungover, and our guide literally dragged them out of bed and sent them my way.

The stop at the "Blue Lagoon" wasn’t particularly interesting. Next, we were supposed to head to a private beach, but the yacht turned somewhere it absolutely shouldn’t have. We ended up in the strait between Saona Island and the main Hispaniola Island—an area that’s a protected reserve!

That’s where sea turtles lay their eggs, manatees come to mate, and some endangered coral species grow. On regular tours, they just show this strait from afar and stress that it’s strictly off-limits. But we were sailing right into it… 😬

We entered a strait where we weren't supposed to go. This group was supposed to snorkel there, but only one person really wanted to do it. So I decided to take advantage of the moment. While we were snorkeling, a boat appeared on the horizon and started approaching us. It turned out to be the coast guard. They pulled up to our boat and started talking to the captain, who, frankly, seemed to be expecting this and was fully prepared.

From their conversation, I understood that they were bargaining. The captain had a bribe ready, but he wanted to keep some of it for himself, while the coast guard wanted more than he was offering. I have no idea how much they finally agreed on, but they agreed.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure the coast guard knew in advance which yacht would be where and when. After that, nothing special happened. The tourists drank and had fun... they even invited me to join, haha. But on the way back, another problem arose! 😅
