I strongly dislike the term "non-technical", but I am the non-technical person building, loving, obsessing over emerging tech. What are some alternative words for non-technical?

A technophile? You can love, follow and stay current in using the latest tech as a technophile but it doesn't mean you are necessarily building it or understand the deep technicalities.

"Phile" is a common enough word fragment that most people wouldn't probably make that association that I'm guessing you are making, tbh, especially not people in the technology fields. But if it bothers you, then that's fine. It seems a pretty concise match though!
