I don't think new + success is a thing at Google, especially if we factor in profitability. ~All of the obvious successes today took a decade to get there (Android, Gmail, Cloud, YouTube, etc). Even the Transformer paper is 5+ years old and not technically a success for Google yet. πŸ™ƒ

I like this framing: "Trustless" is about being able to trust by choice rather than by obligation. https://warpcast.com/aviationdoctor.eth/0x3af0553f

How do you explain why trusting anybody is bad? What about trusting hardware, software etc?

Anyone have a comprehensive definition of the word "Trustless"? (Especially for non-crypto folks.)

Why wouldn't it be? Anything that enables us to do something better or something we couldn't do before is a technology. Why should it be limited to physical devices and digital mechanisms, but not abstract frameworks? https://warpcast.com/shazow.eth/0x65235834

If we treat governance as a form of tech, what does that mean in this context? To me, it's asking the question of "governed how exactly?" Through regulatory enforcement? Through economic incentives? Through artificial hard constraints (physics? smart contracts?)? New forms we haven't discovered yet?

1. What's something you've changed your opinion on recently? 2. What's the most impactful you've read in the past year?

At least get too tired to actively hate it for made up reasons.

I miss when people were all riled about crypto, now it's so mild. Everyone is too busy polishing their hot takes on AI.

Visited DC for thanksgiving, got to see some monuments, paid respects to the FDR family doggo.

Late reply, but I've had some bad experiences with fastmail, lost all trust. (Thread: https://twitter.com/shazow/status/1021570521987731458) My go-to recommendation is protonmail these days, surprisingly competitive offering and much more values-aligned.

I remember when farcaster was trying to figure out what the channel equivalent to /r/subreddit was going to be, and gotta say the /farcaster syntax is working great. Good job!

My fav thing to learn about people is how they've been changing/evolving, especially recently. I like to get a feel for people's trajectory, more than their absolute position. It's an awkward thing to phrase in a non-vague way, though (I tried it in your AMA too). Any ideas? Possibly an indirect approach?

Conversely, we need to re-examine the totalitarian regimes of some capitalist corporations (on the outside; perhaps communist from the inside) as they approach and exceed nation-state scale/power, which are not unlike totalitarian communist states that performed atrocities at scale. This is the main leftist criticism.

Yes, we need to be more mindful about all the different scales of coordination, especially as they're actively shifting (with network states maybe, AGI maybe). We as a species, we as a planet, we as a nation, we as a community, we as a family, we as a body, we as individual organs, we as a self or consciousness, etc.

One take I enjoy is that communism is ubiquitous within capitalism. Imagine having to pay your coworker a fee every time you need a PR review, or pay your parents every time they made you dinner. Also let's not forget that even communist nations exercised capitalism through trade with other nations.

Thanks! Would be slick, and in theory shouldn't be too hard to do a quick MVP since we're already parsing straight-up tx calldata! Track here: https://github.com/shazow/callthis/issues/24

Ah, pull previous transactions and build links from them? Should be doable... Interesting idea.
