I don’t agree with all, but art for me is about appreciating choices. 

The more choices the computer makes, the less I can appreciate the human.

I am not against ai, and I think it's crazy that a computer can do this. But as an artist, I think I'm finally able to elaborate on why ai art like this bothers me

Kinda reminds me of when I was in middle school and there was a heated debate among my drawing peers about whether tracing is considered art.

A doodler and computerer. I like permissive/permissionless open source, smart contracts, p2p systems, room-scale VR, and NixOS.

Also makes me think of the grand canyon of a line between "i took a pic with my phone" and "photography as art".

fwiw I'm not gatekeeping the definition of art with this cast.

It's about why I'd rather search for hints of signal in human messages vs hallucinate signal in the noise machine.

I think the metaphor applies though.
1. Ever take a random half-assed photo with your phone and ask yourself "wait is this good enough to be considered art?" Minimal intentionality, a lot of post-processing is done for free automagically. Usually it's trash, but sometimes...
2. Do the same, but in Iceland and somehow every photo is mindblowing. 🤪

Actually I agree, especially from the perspective of the artist.

But from the perspective of the consumer...

There's a trope of apocryphal anecdotes how scholars interpret the works of artists (looking for the hidden blurry heart in the messy line hatches) when sometimes it's just an accidental smudge/AI slop. Imagine the scrutiny our slop will endure by aliens long after our civilization is gone.

Perhaps there is a lovely German word for when the intention of the artist is correctly picked up by the consumer, and the angels sing.

Other times it's just a different banana taped to a wall each morning.
