it's crazy to me that no one has ever made a good 5k screen outside of Apple (or LG, as forced to by apple)

there should be several high-quality options for 27-32” monitors with 6-8k resolution, decent HDR performance, and wide gamut P3/A98 coverage

figuring out my next thing | marketing, content, growth | prev. Juicebox, Nouns, RAW DAO | casting about coffee, hi-fi, and other rabbit holes

Last year for the first time we actually got 4K OLED high framerate monitors (like the Alienware AW3225QF, they all came out within a few months of each other). I don't think it's a "the market" situation so much as there are challenges/tradeoffs that we're still tackling.

Personally I'd take a 4K120-240hz over a 6K60hz any day. Being stuck with 60hz in 2025 is barbaric.

Disagree about size alone, the other variable is how close to your eyes it is. Push a 32 further back and it's at least as good as your 27 4k.

Alienware is not the only option, it's one of 5 or 6 panels that came out within a few months from various brands.

Also it's silly to gatekeep because "it's for gamers" doesn't match an aesthetic lol. I mean I'm not gonna tell you how to spend your money but it's a great monitor for work and I do enjoy gaming on it too! Until that CES there were literally zero options that fit both specs.

Anyway my point is that it's a technical milestone issue. Aesthetic/identity issues come after.

eh, agreed on refresh rate but 32” at 4k isn’t good enough. needs to be 6k or 8k. 27” at 4k is passable though.

alienware also not viable due to design, we need products for offices and professionals not gamers.
