bots were actually good for business. my launch posts used to get 500-1000s of likes (with hundreds of clickthroughs). today I'm lucky if it hits 50. if bots boosting my posts meant real users were more likely to see them as well, I gladly take the tradeoff

High level, this is an argument that we should just abandon any control of our timeline algorithm and just hand it off to whatever strategy bots happen to be using? Like others pointed out, there's no guarantee that bots are fair or will remain consistent/favourable to you, right? Maybe one day I'll launch a bunch of bots that only amplify Canadians or something silly.

i didn't mean this in a way that bots were only favorable to me, it felt like engagement overall was higher for everyone

Ah so you're saying all real people were more active on Farcaster before than now, and bots were responsible for catalyzing people's activity?

DAUs didn't drop that much according to https://dune.com/pixelhack/farcaster but it felt like I was getting more engagement from both bots and real accounts

It's hard for me to imagine bots being a good experience for the median user. Don't think they were good for me. I totally believe that it happened to be good for you though. When I got boosted, I got way more bot engagement, but no substantial or interesting conversation at all. This thread has lots of good quality discussion (even if a lot of it is misunderstanding or upset).

I don't have a hard time with ignoring bots, i also don't think they are good i'm saying that i would be happy to take the bots with the overall higher engagement acrosss the board, but there are probably other ways to get to that as well

I hear you. Even if that was true, it's still leaving a lot of control on the table to the bots. There is no guarantee they'll continue behaving the same way, not become more extractive, etc. I don't think interests are aligned, even if they happen to produce more engagement across the board for some time period (hard for me to believe this but could be convinced).
