Sierra Mountains in California. Similar but more arid.

PNW? One of the most memorable pine forests I've hiked was in the Olympic peninsula. The ground was so thick with fallen needles it was like walking on pillows. The scent of the forest was so uniquely pine, crisp, full of renewal, and ripe with a petrichor from a nearby river that it's etched in my olfactory memory.
