People 55 and older own 80 percent of the stock market. The top ten percent own 93 percent of the stock market. I think it's lost on the media and political class that the vast majority of the country just doesn't really care what's happening in the stock market.

The inverse to this is how many union pension funds and 401ks are tied up in stock market and how much of a burden is that going to be to multiple generations if those are lost. (I agree with the principles of post though)

Union numbers are pretty small now and those stats account for 401ks, but I agree that a true correction in the market will be devastating to these groups. Especially people close to retirement. They are all in.

Def agree on unions being small, that is one of major reasons that I do think these things matter, we need more union membership now than ever imo, bringing back American manufacturing without a strong union would be a disaster for the working class
