been working remotely since 2006. i used to travel so much it didn't matter where I lived, so i moved... now, i can't see any other way. i'll note that i do believe a 'get to know you' phase for new jobs or assignments (i.e. a week a month or 2 in office for a period of time) will definitely help the team bond..
