This weeks post is quite literally a first draft. I don’t have anything profound or extraordinary to say, but I’ve had a long and good day and I feel like writing down what happened. I woke up next to my girlfriend at 7:30, and did the normal routine of walk the dog, brew coffee and sit down at my desk. I hacked a bit on the pong frame you might have seen me casting about the past few days for the first hour. Then I hopped on a daily 9am call I have with a client I’ve been working with for the last 4 months. It’s a big corporation and very slow and boring, but whenever something ships that I work on it goes out to hundreds of thousands of users so that’s cool. They didn’t have much work for me today. So I worked on /rhizome; added a feed of Zora posts. I joined /the-arena so I’m trying to ship one thing a week for /rhizome for that. Then I took a call with another mobile app I recently shipped, it’s an app that lets you track family vehicles by plugging an OBD 2 dongle into your car. 1/4

You can see location and other critical metrics. We’re dealing with some issues with data loading slow and having to refactor some parts of the app. The devices send data every second when the car is on and our db has 2M+ data points. I’ll likely write more about the project at some point. Then I took two more calls on two other projects. One is a startup I help, the other a rewrite of a different app for the same big corp I work with. It was 3pm. My girlfriend had been cleaning the house and we were hungry, so we drove to Whole Foods, got some chicken wings and ate there. On the way to Whole Foods, the Model 3 was giving like 3 different alerts I’d never seen before that looked scary. Saying it might not start if we stop it, and it needs service now. I assumed it would just work after we ate, but nonetheless it did not turn back on and we were stuck in the Whole Foods parking lot. 2/4

We had already booked two back to back workout classes at a gym that’s like 30 minutes from home for 6 and 7pm. We didn’t want to cancel so we decided to walk home (about fifteen minutes) and Uber to my girlfriend’s car so we could have a car for now, and then drive to the gym. On the walk home, I’m on the phone with Tesla and a towing service getting a truck to come take the car to the service center. We get home, I’m on the phone still with the service center and the tow service, hands freezing, packing my gym bag and ordering the Uber at the same time. The Uber arrives, the towing service confirms a driver is on the way and he’ll call when he’s at the car and the service center confirms he can leave the car in the lot. We both take a nap in the 30 minute Uber to my girlfriend’s car. The tow driver calls just about when we get there. I’m on the phone with him while my girlfriend drives us to the gym, trying to get the car into tow mode, 3/4
