The Crucifixion by Fra Angelico, circa 1440, commissioned by Cosimo Medici who gave much help and advice with regard to the details of the painting. Currently it is in the Met Gallery in New York.

Legend has it that Angelico prayed every morning before painting this. And as he did anytime he was painting Christ on the Cross, he was overcome with emotion and tears would pour down his face.
