Being a reply guy on a platform that leans towards more big brained conversations/ discussions about the future is interesting.

1. It means mindless, out of context replies are worthless.

2. It means really READING what is said, paying attention to what they drive at and asking questions.

I wouldn’t say gatekept but rather socially discouraged. Early members of any group set the tone and precedent of norms which seems to compound up to a point. 

When the group gets large enough, the quality becomes more variable and thus the norms more diverse
