These changes are not launching yet. It will be a couple weeks. There will also be a bunch of communication to channel owners.

Overall feedback is that I think this is a step in the right direction, channels will have way stronger signal and focus.

Is there consideration in the future between different write levels for root casts vs replies?

i.e. /fc-updates can be root casted by mods only, replies open to members or even public

That is part of the design. Made it clearer in the FAQ.
