Tonight as I walked home from a book club I found myself having to run away from a tweaker/schizo wildly screaming threats and slurs He was headed straight towards me but I don’t believe he was locked in on me as a target. I don’t think he tried to chase me as I ran. This isn’t even the first time in the past week I’ve taken off running from someone on the street. Paranoid perhaps, but why chance it. I figure it’s better to be safe and just run. Get myself out of the area. But it was the scariest by far because I know if that guy made eye contact he would have almost certainly hurt me. The way he was screaming to himself was menacing. And Once you lock eyes with one of these men it’s over.

I had a similar encounter thrice with the same person when I lived in Santa Cruz, CA. Was a woman in her 50s who threatened me with a concealed weapon(?) because I was walking to my girlfriends house and I refused to give her a blanket. I turned around and went a much longer way to avoid her. Another time I walked by her without noticing and eventually I ran. Then the last she noticed me and ran straight towards me before cops miraculously pulled up and talked to her as I ran. I found her on a local mugshot website and she had 15+ arrests, most of which for assault, battery, and/or harassment. All on main streets of the city. Constantly in and out of jail and progressively worse in her photos. I was frustrated, scared, furious, and eventually exhausted. It’s one of several reasons why I left Santa Cruz, and the Bay Area. Though I also never had a car there. As long as bipping and petty theft aren’t huge in Austin, I think there’s hope in your case.
