One time I saw a tweet from a hiring manager that said they asked to see the email inbox of anyone who claimed to be "organized" or have "high attention to detail" and it scared me into this level of work inbox management, largely automated

If it works, it works! I tried this approach when I first joined Google which unsurprisingly has a lot of meta discussion on inbox management. I couldn’t stick to it. The only label I use is is:archived and I just throw everything that isn’t directly addressed to me in there. Happy as a clam now.

The automations largely take care of the labeling and sorting. I have Google Alerts set up for industry news and I do look at that folder quite a bit. I don't think you need to do this at all EVER. I am just succumbing to the paranoid idea someone would judge me about it one day because I do pride myself on being organized LMAO
