farcaster clients should locally replicate all of the logged in user's messages and sync it to icloud so that if they don't pay for storage and their data gets pruned the app can just prompt them to pay and republish all their data from the backup

why wouldn't it be? archives for even the most active users should be <10mb

Adding on images and videos are links so they don’t even need to be in the backup

They should though since it's uncertain how long that content will stay online.

I've seen several media posts from 1-2 years ago that just come up empty now.

You'd think with how privy people are nowadays to privacy, anti-AI data slurping, cancel culture, etc etc we'd have more ephemeral social networks. Yet only big one that comes to mind is 4chan!

yeah this part. i just think that data/historical content is difficult to recover after it’s been deprecated
