why is there no letterboxd for books? the UX is superior to goodreads across the board like who genuinely enjoys goodreads??? how do these suburban soccer mom book clubs even function on there???

I think because Amazon owns Goodreads + Audible + Kindle there's virtually no incentive for anyone to compete, and thus the platform has need to improve

Yep it's a bit of a shame. I'm personally indifferent as I use it just to mark books as "Read it later" and naively hope one day Amazon will care enough to integrate features into Audible or Kindle (don't think they ever will lol). Tbh I'm surprised there's one popular platform that handles all media types, kinda like /nook

for me part is also the social aspect. i said letterboxd bc it feels like a showcase for movies— “this is me” letterboxd/sdv and bam, see five favorite movies & five most recent ratings. clean. i go to goodreads/sdv and it shows a bunch of yearly challenge bs, a shitty UX scroll of current/recent reads, and oft-empty info about groups and bookshelves. mostly useless. just….ugly. outdated.
