Gross but practical question: how do you keep your external keyboard / mouse clean? 

I've tried isopropyl wipes and it doesn't seem that effective.

I have the same keyboard at work and at home but the one at home feels 100x nicer since I use it so much less.

Is it a lost cause?

A few months ago I spilled some smoothie on my ~10 year old standing desk controller and it slowly became unusable.

I was about to buy a replacement from another brand (which TIL was even an option) but I figured if it's dead might as well pry it open.

Turns out warm water and soap was the fix!
