Japan used to be really expensive, but their economy stagnated in the '90s and hasn't really ever rebounded 

right now the yen is doing worse than ever and is down to a 34-year low so it's even more affordable than it has been the last decades

i moved from one of the last expensive regions in the world so it is wild
