As a non-gun owner Canadian, whose country just did a massive gun ban, after several other gun bans over the past few years. These are my thoughts:
I personally think the overall American mindset around guns is dated, unrealistic, especially against tyranny is frankly a little dumb. That being said, since there are so many guns in the US and so many people own them, there’s almost no reason not to if you live there. If i lived there, I probably would just out of principle.
Regarding gun bans: Prior to the bans we’ve had, Canada was very good with licensing and regulations and we had very little gun crime. Now, with the bans, gun crime is up over 100%, and nearly 80%+ of all Canadian gun crime is with US black market guns.
So as a Canadian without guns, i’d say stronger regulation and education is needed. But banning anything is not.
But also the “need” to arm yourself here isn’t as great, because you aren’t worried about someone else being armed.
a little non-us perspective for ya 2 replies
