Does anyone know why Apple needs to work with Broadcom here (given their in-house capabilities)?

I do not claim to "know" but I would say at the very least that in house capabilities can become an echo chamber. Though it could be that Broadcom has a solid history with silicon and Apple has strong competition. idk
