"This does not change the fact that the Bluesky app and the AT Protocol do not use blockchains or cryptocurrency, and we will not hyperfinancialize the social experience (through tokens, crypto trading, NFTs, etc.)" "Bluesky’s open technology, the AT Protocol, makes a whole ecosystem of apps possible. We’re excited that developers have already begun building their own applications with totally different purposes from the Bluesky app. For example, Smoke Signal is an events app, Frontpage is a web forum, and Bluecast is an audio app (that includes karaoke with licensed songs)! We hypothesize that monetization strategies like subscriptions, domain-name registrations, and payments to creators will enable these independent apps to grow as well."

what's interesting about the above is that blockchain to me is a natural solution fitting the monetization

I liked this "Our lead, Blockchain Capital, shares our philosophy that technology should serve the user, not the reverse — the technology being used should never come at the expense of the user experience." I think it's the core problem of user retention/acquisition in the crypto world.

no one is hyperfinancializing anything here, people just explore it because it's possible, you can make good $ here with an simple app or community of 50-100 true fans on bluesky you could get millions of people using your thing but you either would feed them ads or not earn anything lol how it turned out for telegram with that hamster clicker - was the top app with hundreds of millions users?! what happened tho is that they used those numbers to direct people to watch their youtube vids and made a few dozen millions $ basically extracting it from people watching youtube ads and wasting time on it in hopes of making a few bucks which they were given in the end
