The issue with Facebook Platform was the company had an existential crisis right around the time of the IPO in 2012. Company had to go all-in on mobile and an app platform on top of early generation smartphone wasn't going to work. Also turned out that displaying ads for mobile games was a far better business than taking a cut of on platform payments to Zynga. cc @antonio

Also fun to read monetization (who would have thought) was a big problem at millions of dau back then 🤣 It depend on what you build and how valuable that is to a user. Btw my PoV is that farcaster monetized well for people leveraging the crypto rails It reads like a Deja Vu from building on farcaster but without the lock in to one app

„We [Slide] don’t know yet because we haven’t tried it, but it’s probably already going on. If that’s the floor, how do you raise the ceiling? Some apps will start charging, and Facebook will have to provide a transactional platform where a user can say “yes, I want to buy this” and Facebook takes care of the transaction. Which will be phenomenal for Facebook because they can just extract a tax for the process „ Upsie 🙌
