I now understand what the English saying „going through the motions“ means. The more English my life has become the more I am learning to understand the language on a deeper level Mainly though my feelings are German, I don’t feel English the same way. as another non english as first language speaker going through the motions has a special semantic meaning beyond the ups and downs itselve, about the subject not doing much about it and just following with the flow (as in opposition to try and swim against the currents)
