Answers in the essay :) It describes hardware startups that qualify product with enterprise customers over 2-3 years before sales. This is not new, except to VCs. The bar has gone up for software, too, which is also touched upon. Can’t scale to $50M ARR in 12 months if product breaks. Bar is higher than 2000s.

I’m mostly referring to B2B sales (for components in consumer devices). However, I think this still holds for DTC — people bought Rabbit and Humane, but they sucked so they died quickly without getting the “iPhone chance” to succeed and improve over time. The first iPhone had no App Store. Not possible today.

Consumer and enterprise. Early (pre-growth) investors mostly use ARR growth as a leading indicator, while it’s a huge lagging indicator for hardware companies with enterprise customers, since most early payments are in mutual NRE. But then revenues explode because that NRE made and/or qualified a global supply chain.

I agree that speed is imperative. But very little that OpenAI releases breaks. They’ve been even more conservative with testing/post-training since the day it crashed, which is when Claude found some power users IMO Any startup that’s worth < $10 BN can’t take market share if they break. The standard is too high

Does anyone have resources and/or tips to learn functional Korean vocabulary/phrases really quickly? My January travel itinerary changed dramatically and I’m visiting Seoul about a month earlier than anticipated. I can read 한글 but have limited vocabulary/speaking experience.
