Hey founders, what do you do when someone promising emails you about a job, or you meet them IRL, but you aren't hiring at the moment? Does anyone maintain an effective talent radar in a way that's simple enough to actually stick to for stuff like this?

When my founders were trying to warm me up they added me to the monthly investor update emails. We spoke about once a month through brief interactions, mostly favours. They would ask me if I knew anyone for xyz, and I would back channel information about other investors through them. By the time I had gotten hired by them 4 months later I had referred three engineers to them and they had shared some inside info with me re: certain partners at VC funds I was interested in working at. Ultimately the easy way is to ask for basic, table stakes favours to help build the relationship and trust. As a former tech recruiter I would just add every candidate on LinkedIn when it was a “not right now” and start interacting with their stuff when I began hiring for certain roles ;)

Yep that’s a great way to do it! LinkedIn is actually a fairly good solution for this
