I was in Mexico during día de muertos, the day of the dead. I didn’t know much about this holiday but I became so overwhelmed with gratitude and joy after seeing an ofrenda (an altar) with a picture of someone’s dog. I cried of happiness. In North America we remember our dead ones on their bday or the day of their death and its somber. It also tends to be individual to a single person, rather than multiple people. Dia de muertos is a happy celebration, and you can appreciate all the dead people or pets that you’ve ever had in your life. I never thought I would perceive death in a positive way so that new perspective was refreshing and welcome and made me happy. When we got back to the hotel after the celebrations I was soaked bc intense rain. So I went for a skinny dip in the ocean because why not, I was already wet. I think I flashed this group of grannies but idc. And the stars were so bright, they were blinking (literally shining) and beautiful. It’s like they were saying hello to me ☺️

This is beautiful. It was great to read it in-between everyday internet hype and attention-grabbing
