Some reflections from IRL tech conference (40k ppl): 1. I met a few high school students that I’m pretty sure snuck in. All of them were curious and well behaved. The future is very bright. 2. Blockchain based businesses used to be the big thing. Now it’s AI that mostly replaces CX - virtual receptionist, answering phone calls, chat bots etc. Seems like we are in the nascency of AI. Not many AI infra startups yet, which surprised me. 3. 90% of people are pretty nice. But in person some people forget their manners - asking me directly to speak to my CEO/CTO without introducing themselves or what they would like to chat about. Please tell me what you’re looking for and why so I can help you better 😊 4. Young founders can be really arrogant. I met one that was grilling both me and my CEO on our pitch bc he was confused about technical language. Trying to put us in a corner because of ego and semantics was not cool and a waste of time.

5. One CEO from a potential competitor came by and also grilled me. He was concerned we are competition. We are. But coming over and making it obvious was stupid. The stupider thing is that our CTO met his CTO a few weeks ago and had a good conversation, so it soured an existing relationship. If you are going to be adversarial, be less obvious. 6. Bringing my own lunch was a lot better than purchasing junk food at the conference. My tummy felt so much better not feeling bloated while talking to so many people. 7. Take the mask off. Be authentic with other people. I met many authentic people who were transparent and kind as to what they were looking for. Ask questions and be genuinely curious. 8. I did a lot of rejection upfront. “I admire the hustle but we aren’t a good fit right now because of XYZ”. I am not going to let someone give me an entire pitch while I have my product to sell instead.
