Ojai, CA feels like fertile ground for starting a cult

Yes, and Joshua Tree but also America in general. I think Americans are some of the most susceptible people in the world

Yes, I do feel like America is susceptible because of the gaping spiritual hole that doesn’t get filled with consumerism / and increasing apathy towards religion. Add that to the carte Blanche nature of America; manifest destiny being only possible because of its history of wanting to erase its own history

As a non-US person it's funny to see the US viewed as 'apathetic towards religion' when it's still so much more led by religious views than most other Western nations - or non-Western - China, Russia for example.

America IS led by religious narratives and views, but the people understand that it’s just really about that exactly that - buying into the narrative I’d actually prefer it more if it was led with kindness and religious values, but it’s more seen these days as a tool to steer the masses or just profit imo

that said - it's easier for our politicians to have that sort of narrative as we dont' have the big wads of cash involved in lobbying etc that there is in the US. a 'big' party donation here is like $250kUSD or similar. 😂
