Build websites. Make them personal. Make them portable and avoid vendor lock-in. This is the mentality we are supporting with @orbiterhost https://localghost.dev/blog/this-page-is-under-construction/

What’s your take on personal websites beyond portfolios?

I think people should make personal sites for anything they are interested in. I recognize it’s hard to maintain many sites though so I would have a portfolio site that also has interests. For me I like writing, so my site is a combination of portfolio, resume, and blog.

Love blogs - it’s the most personal aspect of personal websites imo Portfolios and resumes are the norm, and sure I’d put them too, but I want to build a website that’s actually personal to who I am online - choosing what to persist from everywhere on the internet and letting it evolve Creative works (photos, writing), banger social posts and interactions (conversations I want to give others a window to), onchain assets that I cherish - my avatar online, in personality not just pfp. Social media is transient, a personal website is persistent

I think I properly articulated this for the first time 😅 It might just be time to go build it

Speaking of the difference between personal websites and social media, not sure if you saw this when I wrote https://orbiter.host/blog/the-web-was-meant-for-surfing-not-scrolling/
