When i was a kid it was hot wheels vs matchbox (tomica cars werent as available in the US). I loved the hotwheels, especially between 1995-2005 when they did “first editions” and “treasure hunt” series.

Oh vintage hotwheels and matchbox are cool though! The newer ones perhaps leaving little to be desired for me haha (but hey, it clearly works for boys his age now 🤣)

They really were and Matchbox had a pretty amazing run in the 70s and 80s. Something happened in the mid 2000s, Mattel overproduced or something and then they stopped using die-cast bodies for the regular cars. Everything became plastic and the "First Editions" were gone. Hasn't been the same since.

Mid 2000s is the global crisis I suppose haha. Tertiary industries all got hit hard. Tomica is pretty steadfast though, although with little innovation let's be honest on their releases- again, I like bland 🤣
