SEC Regrets Referring to Tokens as Securities The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has stated that when they referred to "cryptocurrency securities", they never intended to imply that tokens were in fact securities. By using this term, the regulator means not the token itself, but the "complete set of contracts and sale agreements of these assets".
