Been test driving the Zora app for the last 24 hours. Some thoughts:

1. They’re memecoins. It says “Buy”, shows the price very clearly, along with number of holders and price trend. There is no intellectually honest way to say these aren’t memecoins. Every time I buy one my instinct is to make a profit on it and that shapes my whole experience of the app.

2. The overall app design is very slick, and they implemented crypto payments better than anyone I’ve seen. I was off and running within 2 minutes.

3. There are ways this could be a very cool, non-speculative app. There’s a lot of art on there, what if when I bought a post it shipped a print of that piece to my house? What if instead of buying the post, I could hire the artist/designer? I’m sure there are plenty of other ideas. Would love to see the team get more creative with the use case.

it’s definitely not institutional scale; personally skeptical anything institutional will create good sandboxes people want to play in outside finance.

i do think there are big enough outflows from btc to sustain some kind of market, entertainment being the job to be done there like most american gallery art

have met more crypto whales that are huge art collectors than ones who aren’t - question is whether that continues if crypto doesn’t ship a product that serves the demand

steelman: genuinely good digital art, could see many pieces trading in the 5-6 figure range

traders running portfolios of tiny percentages of 1000s of pieces each, basically art world curator dynamics + digital markets

doesn’t look like current platforms align with the people who would drive that forward though

I keep a meaningful amount of USD on Base and get 1.5-3x the yield of TradFi - surprised this use case doesn’t get mentioned more often? There are literally billions of TVL in these lending markets now
