Well, development on the project pretty much stopped - and speculators and MBA types replaced all the devs and folks who were actually putting in work behind the technology itself. I sometimes think had they managed to combine their meme culture with NFTs, DOGE could've been in an entirely new place now. (I sold off all of it as soon as I heard Elon was getting "involved" - I know what that means having seen his previous escapades before.)
