I know many Libertarians are excited that Trump pardoned Ross Ulbricht. Genuine question for the crypto – aligned: how do others along the political spectrum feel about it?

This was entrapment. The Feds created the suggestion of murder for hire while Ross showed no prior predisposition for it. The chat logs authenticity is also disputed. The other (admittedly circumstantial) part is that if these were dead to rights accusations why was he never charged? It certainly was not a lack of political will

Oh, that’s great context. Sounds like it falls in the long line of rather… suspicious arrests. I wasn’t into politics or tech at that point in time, so I’ve got some catching up to do.

Yeah, in a non-political context, it’s one of those things where you’d go yeah you shouldn’t have done that, even if it’s dumb it’s still illegal, but nothing crazy. But because it was obviously politically motivated and intentionally cruel because of it, it’s easy to be on his side

Someone needed to “set an example” I’m sure. That strong of a punishment for a setup screams smokescreen. So yeah, seems easy enough. 😅
