Those of you running VC backed startups with young kids, what is the secret? Full time caregiving spouse? Army of helpers (cleaner, nanny etc)?

Embrace the chaos and take help anywhere you can. And having your partner fully "onboard" is critical.

For us, what works [for now] is my wife being the primary parent for our two kids (5 & 1) and not working. I end up working 12+ hours most days and travel ~25% of the time. But we constantly communicate and make space for each other and our kids. Working from home really helps here (e.g. the 5 minute interactions between meetings).

Also, lots of coffee - somewhere along the way you realize you don't "need" as much sleep as you thought.

One consistent theme that comes up is one partner is primary parent/ft caregiver. I haven't heard of many examples where both partners have a ft career and the kids are not shipped off to a nanny (which I have my own views about, mostly negative)

I also agree on the sleep and coffee front - I average woj levels of espresso everyday

Same - I've known some friends /family that have both parents working, but it either doesn't last *or* they have really strong support from the grandparents

A cousin and his wife are both in the rocket industry. They've got 4 kids now 😅🙃 but also grandparents in town and usually an au pair

Also same on the coffee - I drank 0 before my first kid and now I can't live without it. Easily average 4-8 shots per day
