can someone who understands this much better than me show me how restaking doesn't totally turn a decentralized system into a fragile one vulnerable to cascading risk

A successful, truly decentralized and permissionless system cannot be vulnerable to any application built on top of it. That’s the whole point of what we’re building. Also restaking is essentially a derivative. Which is a legitimate financial product

By that definition there are no successful blockchains. They're all dependent on a bunch of external things that can't be guaranteed.

I didn’t say not dependent on external things. I said not vulnerable to applications built on top of it That it is a very, very big difference

By that definition, there are two successful blockchains ETH and BTC could be broken by some app built on top of them in the future, but currently they are successful and undefeated by this metric
