You're right, I do care about more than one issue. The one thing I wish to preserve is classical liberalism - the one thing i wish to defeat is authoritarianism - crypto is a recent addition to the cannon of liberalism, and I unabashedly support it under the thesis - "if they adopt crypto protocols they adopt crypto values"

So, an authoritarian that propagates crypto is better than an equal authoritarian that doesn't.

However, I'd far prefer a candidate demonstrably less authoritarian overall, even if that candidate has a blind spot on crypto and hates it.

Here's the challenge.

I have no freaking idea which party/group is less authoritarian. My sources are polluted, I cannot be an expert in all domains. The domain I do have expertise in is crypto AND in crypto, many republican candidates have a more liberal approach than their democrat competitors.

So what do?

I state the candidates positions on crypto as clearly as possible on both sides and push them to be more pro-crypto.

That's my lane.

My lane is pro-crypto, anti-authoritarian.

I am not a single issue voter, though I understand people that are.

I support pro-crypto policy from both political parties, and give voice so voters can hear transparently where politicians land. 

I avoid dishing strong opinion on areas I have limited expertise.

My deep wish for America is that it avoids the 21st century trap of creeping authoritarianism. My contribution to this task is propagating crypto, and in so doing, restore some power to the people.

I stand with anti-authoritarianism. Crypto is part of that stance. Free speech (thank you for interviewing Greg Lukianoff) is also part of that stance. That's why I support FIRE and the Heterodox Academy.

Love this take. If you believe in decentralization, you should be all for decentralizing *power* above all. And authoritarianism is in direct conflict with that objective.

I think that is a reasonable lane... a wide lane, and things do get complicated when we start talking specifics.

But we do need to rebuild the muscles of having good, intellectually honest conversations while continually reflecting on (and perhaps updating from time to time) our first principles.

Like which specific policies/actions would you like to see more/less of, how they would be funded, etc.

(I generally love it when people think more about these things concretely without resorting to existing political labels, I think it's very productive and lacking in contemporary society.)
