ETH Roadmap, what do? Now everyone's had a chance to listen to Max and Mike episodes Max says make the L1 great again. Change roadmap to prioritize execution. Mike says settlement, DA, execution in that order. Existing roadmap good. So who's right? Max - Is the Ethereum roadmap off track? https://youtube.com/watch?v=FLUJ0uLye0U Mike - In Defense of the Ethereum roadmap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34uqTIPuOjg

After listening to both episodes (great episodes by the way) it seems like a large part of the debate boils down to monetary premium & growth. On the current road map will ETH the asset substantially increase in value because of the growth of the intangible intersubjective reality “ETH is money”? If so then we should stay the course, if not then we should swing the pendulum back to L1 execution and focus on quantifiable metrics that we know increase the value of ETH (the burn driven by L1 usage). So which one is it? I think @trustlessstate put it best 6 weeks or so ago. If the total addressable market for block space in the future is significantly larger (orders of magnitude) than it is today, we should stay the course and scale via L2s to meet that demand. If the TAM for block space is not much larger than it is today, L1 execution should be the priority. Given the amount of innovation in the space, I’m bullish on block space demand and so bullish on ETH & favour the current roadmap.

Current roadmap seems best to me though what do I know. People who think they know how to do Eth better than the core devs are fooling themselves.

Is there an argument that ETH is basically just the utility token of most of DeFi? I would like to hear from people who know more than I do.

Roll ups are a great way to add competitive independent profitable businesses to the Ethereum economy. Focusing on L1 because of worry about price seems like short term thinking that will hold Ethereum back and put it on the same level as other L1s.

I would be interested in hearing VanEck’s / uniswap’s perspectives on the implications to ether as an asset and the impact of liquidity fragmentation on defi. Rollups are extractive now. Will the L1 be squeezed dry before the roadmap can be implemented?

I don't have the technical background to evaluate the two approaches, but based on vibes and intuition, I feel like we could have some of both. I think I like the idea that all L2 rollups become base roll ups if that means more integration with and reliance on Ethereum L1. Personally, I mint my most valued art on Eth L1, and dabble with more experimental stuff or promotional level artwork on the L2s and even other chains.
