don't mistake this as web safety – the DAVE protocol explicitly has a "server can downgrade to in the clear" message they can send. They're doing this so they don't have to spend money on lawsuits where users are streaming UFC, soccer, movies, etc because they'll have plausible deniability rather than having to spend way more on content detection.
