a lot of what we recognize as the ghibli style of animation and the feelings evoked by the colour palettes can be attributed to Makiko Futaki she was one of the only animators on staff at studio ghibli that miyazaki trusted and allowed to take on side projects - even encouraged her to go outside of animation and try out other ways of expressing her creativity she worked on every single ghibli film from the late 90s to 2014, two years before her passing: princess mononoke, castle in the sky (one of my favourites aesthetically), my neighbour totoro, kiki's delivery service, porco rosso, spirited away, howl's moving castle (another one of my faves), ponyo, etc. shoutout to her - it's a lot of her eye and skill that contributed to the ghiblification of any image ❤️‍🔥 fun fact: she also worked on akira, which got her the full time gig at ghibli

I think its a somewhat odd tribute that her style gets to live on, forever canonized and co-opted by the world for one day. I honestly think it has had so much more reach then it could being limited to just the movies but it also feels like it forcible taken from her, and Ghibli.
