For the average person working in tech, what's their most valuable credential? I suspect for most it's the most "impressive job they've had, with a decay function for how long ago that was".

It's going to be different for everyone and so subject to context. Are you applying to BigCo? Last major position or maybe your recommendations. Are you applying to a startup? Leetcode or whiteboard interview performance. Small stealth startup or tiny team? Personal recommendation. No one size fits all IMO.
