TIL - HELVETICA is not a free font. It is distributed by Linotype. The reason it is free on a Macintosh computer is because Apple paid Linotype a lot of money for permission to use Helvetica. As you may know, Apple has a lot of money, so they can pretty much afford to have what they like, and do whatever it takes to get it.
