you can't unsee what lengths ppl will go to to jump social classes, much of AI discussions are directly stated/thinly veiled 'this is a last opportunity before a new overclass establishes'

i think some ppl know the most hurtful thing they could say is that i will always be white trash and it's had the desired impact

I grew up around mostly-white suburban teens in the 1990s. Punk, grunge and alternative rock felt like rejection of bucolic “Leave It To Beaver” and “Family Ties” prosperity. Many of my peers wanted to jump DOWN social classes. It’s like poverty was a Leni Riefenstahl aesthetic to reclaim denied authenticity.
