On point. Just a note on Cypherpunk. True that it had “broader techno-libertarian ethos” but this description minimizes the contribution of the then-radical left, which I’d argue is a pattern that can be connected to why the current broad left don’t see themselves aligned with this movement. Anarchist, socialist, even communist ideas are hard coded in Cypherpunk. We need look no further than the woman who coined the term itself: Jude Milhon, active in civil rights, feminism, radical health care, supportive of New Left ideals, and lived communally. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jude_Milhon Great read. Just advocating for a more inclusive narrative that reflects who really helped shape the ethos and adds nuance to the distortion that this shit was birthed by a bunch of libertarian bros.

thanks for mentioning this! At his ethcc talked I winced every time “libertarian” was tied to the Ethereum cypherpunk narrative, as relationships to that term are varied and nuanced across the globe for many leftists
