I get asked a lot of what living in Hawaii is like. As a whole its a magical and unique place. Grateful to have lived and grown up here, but it has challenges, a lot of them. Especially for the Hawaiian people (residents don't ever call themselves Hawaiian btw, even if you've been here for generations, only descendents are Hawaiian). John Oliver really nails a lot of the most pressing current and historic issues in the most entertaining and hilarious way. So good. 🤙 😁

Well, thank you, but I should clarify: I was born in Illinois. My family moved to Hawai'i when I was very young, though, so I grew up there. I'm haole so I'd never call myself a "local girl" in the way that *actual* local girls do, y'know? I do understand Pidgin pretty well though. 😄

LOL! 🤣 Fo'real?!? 🤙 Love it. "Kama'aina" is the closest thing to "local" I'd ever claim. And my Pidgin is a bit rusty because I've been away from the islands so long, but hearing it (even in text form) always makes me smile.

no way- no wonder you two are so nice!!! i was born and raised in honolulu! then did middle school on the big island! currently in miami which i think is the closest thing to mainland hawaii 😅 not nearly the same tho gonna be visiting in november!

OMG. Robin, I remember you and I had a convo on FC when you were in Honolulu awhile back. My mom lives in Waikiki; her condo is right along the Ala Wai Canal. I will be there in November too, and staying with my mom, assuming everything goes according to the current plan. Haven't actually made my reservations yet. But I'll see what I can do.
